oh BOY!

Week 18.

This past Thursday, I woke up and decided I wanted to know the gender. My crazy awesome husband who goes along with my weird urgings was game... we were able to get an apt the next day at a local ultrasound studio. The cost was not very much and we got 15 minutes to see the baby. I was supposed to drink a sugary drink 15 min before the ultrasound... and of course I forgot and drank coffee that morning (which I don't do often). That poor kid was awake all morning, then sound asleep for the ultrasound. :( The wonderful tech moved him around until we were able to see the "parts". It's a BOY!. We were so thankful either way, but we'd be completely lying if we said we weren't hoping for a boy. I have always wanted to have a son as my little buddy, and I love the bond I have with my little brother. I'm looking forward to Katelynn having a similar bond with Luke. It was a fun experience watching him move around and smile. He looked like a little alien. I'd love to include a picture.... buuut I have no idea what I did with the cd. (shocker)

We had so much fun and it was more fun because Mandy came with us! After the ultrasound Mandy and I got lunch, then went shopping. She bought Luke his first shirt. I keep calling his clothes "outfits" and Adam keeps saying boys don't wear outfits. I don't get it, but whatever.

18 weeks. I'm huge!

 Babygirl:

Katelynn has been feeling better and back to her old antics. I love everyday watching her relationship with her daddy grow. She thinks he is so funny and will follow him anywhere. She loves to say Dada, even when it's completely appropriate to say Momma. They take silly videos together and giggle at the dogs. They water the plants together and cuddle during football time. She gives huge smiles when she sees him in the morning and starts clapping when she knows he's coming. I can't wait to watch this bond grow. I love my little family so much

Favor

Week 17!

Not a whole lot new on the baby front. Still only showing a little, starting to get a few more aches and pains, but nothing that overwhelms me. I'm very thankful that my nausea is so much more controlled this pregnancy.

Adam was able to feel the baby move a few times this week. That was exciting :) I cannot believe it's already 17 weeks in .... this pregnancy feels like it's flying by!

The Whiny princess

Whenever I encounter a struggling situation/time I have about two different responses. I get frustrated, or I get thankful. I think this past week has been one of those thankful reminder experiences. Katelynn has been dealing with allergies hard core for about a week. They would not get better no matter what we tried. This weekend it moved into a fever and more severe symptoms. She stopped drinking any fluids, no matter what we tried. We finally took her to an Urgent Care place and they put her on antibiotics for an ear infection. Sheesh, that girl is a cranky sick girl! We had so many other things go "wrong"this weekend it really made me think about the favor we experience in our daily lives and take for granted. We are so blessed by a wonderful, well built home. Both Adam and I are generally healthy. We have a very healthy daughter. We have so much favor in our life, and I hope I stop enough to be thankful and relish in the good moments... and be thankful through the hard ones! God truly is good.

She just started throwing her cups when I would give them to her, she was so offended I kept trying to get her to drink!

Lots of talkin', no walkin'

Week 16

We had our 16 week apt this week. Baby is doing good! I feel him/her move a lot. Heart rate was 145... everything is good. I will have my ultrasound at 19 weeks and hopefully determine gender. They put me back on the medication that I hate, i am just praying it goes away for good soon. I have been crazy busy at work, so it keeps my mind off most side effects, but i'm just exhausted. I am still having headahces, but most all the symptoms are very muted.

That Talker
Katelynn is a funny booger. She says Momma, Dada, Uhoh, Bye bye and a LOT of gibberish. That girl STILL refuses to stand. She will pull up on her knees all day long, but no standing for her. We had a really rough weekend.... mainly because she is dramatic. She had the sniffles and couldn't suck on her paci... which is obviously the end of the world. I kept telling her that she didn't even have a fever and was the most dramatic girl I knew.

Kate refusing to stand.

Katelynn's bday

Week 15 is here ya'll! They took me off some meds, so I have that ellusive energy again! It's so wonderful. I'm praying I stay off it, so I can keep this energy. I still have daily headaches, and my nausea is very slight. I have started my wogging every other day (walk/jog) and it makes me super happy.

We have a 16 week apt next week, and I will have an ultrasound in week 19. We are deciding if we will go to an ultrasound place and try to see gender earlier . I'm super impatient. It's crazy to think in 3 weeks I will be halfway. I have started to feel the baby move. You can't feel anything on the outside, but I feel little flutters. Super low, just like his/her sister.

Katelynn Marie Bivins
I read a friend write out her baby's birth story, and it made me realize I really wanted to write down my birth experience with Katelynn. I have the worst memory on the planet, so I better write it down before it gets even further away ha. Here we go.....

So, the pregnancy alone was quite a rollercoaster. A tornado blew away the hospital I was going to use, I moved from an OB doc who was a wonderful friend and I was super sad I wasn't going to be delivering with her. I ended up at Lakeside with a new doctor. She was great in the process, it was just an adjustment.

Anyway, we came close to my due date, and my doctor said my progression was very slow. She gave Adam and I the option to induce. I reached out to some people for advice, some said yes, some said NOoooooo. We decided we would wait another week past our due date and set induction for that day if she hadn't come. I remember sitting in the Chili's on Memorial praying about what to do, and after we decided .... I just cried and cried. Which is so out of my nature. I was just so over it.

The next morning I started cramping. Very mildly, but I knew things were happening. I was working from home and was trying everything people tell you to go into labor. Although, I guess when they say "go on a walk" they don't mean walk a mile as quickly as you can. I was on the phone with a co-worker and he was like uhhh are you ok? I was like "yes! I'm trying to go into labor!!!!" ha. The night of the 30th the contractions were getting closer together and more uncomfortable. I called my mom and asked her to come just in case something was happening. I was texting my aunt during the process trying to figure out what to look for. I finally called the nurse on duty and she told me to drink 32oz of water and see if the contractions go away. After another hour and a half, Adam and I decided to go let them check me. I went in, and she had me wait an hour to see if my dialation increased. I was only slightly uncomfortable, but i reallyyyyyy wanted to be in labor. Of course I wasn't. They sent me home with pain meds and an ambien. She said if when i woke up in the morning I was in major pain and the contractions kept coming, they would check me again. More crying all the way home.

I settled back at home and took the pain meds and ambien. I made it 30 min. At that point I woke up thinking I was DYING. I walked around for a little while and bent over the couch a lot and finally got Adam up to go in and check me again. I was really hoping this wasn't another false alarm, because this crap HURT. They hooked me up for another hour check (which ps.... sucks ), during that time I was in a LOT of pain. I threw up everything i'd eaten, I was pretty pissed and just threatening my body that it better actually be in labor. After an hour I was at a 4, and they said they would admit me. I am so thankful for the nurses who were so caring and wanted to help so much. The Anesthesiologist was in within 30 min and was AWESOME. Later, I realized my contractions weren't very normal. They were differing times and really intense. I am pretty naiive and hadn't preparred myself for the pain, I was just assuming I would go in, get an epi and shove out a kid. Those hours sucked.

After I got my epi I was GREAT. I took a nap and waited for morning. When I woke up I was only at a 6. They offered pitocin, and I declined, hoping that waking up etc would get my body going on it's own. Around and an hour later I was at a 9. It was a very weird experience, because I was SO nervous to push. I kept commenting how nervous I was. It's weird because I had a great epidural, could feel slight pressure and not pain and everything was going okay. My doctor made a few comments about things being a little weird, but my nurse and medical family seemed to think she was a little wrong. My water broke and they talked me into some pitocin since she wouldn't move down the birth canal. More and more checks kept coming and going. The nurse and my families faces started changing. They went from PShwa you are about to do this and it's going to be so easy... to uhhh well hmmm.... Finally my doctor came in and told me that Katelynn wasn't moving. She had passed her miconium, she wasn't progressing like she should and she was giving me a little more time before she took her. I was determined to somehow will myself to get her out. We moved me all over... she came in an hour later and told me that Katelynn was starting to get distressed and it was time. I immediately started crying. My sweet doctor sat on my bed and told me I wasn't a bad mom for having a c section, it's the best bla bla... she didn't realize I was crying because I was PISSED. All that work for a csection.

I was so so thankful my aunt and dad were there the entire time. They helped me answer so many questions and when it was time for a csection, they both agreed and said it's time, do it now. My dad ushered everyone out of the room and a million nurses rushed in and pumped me full of drugs. The only time I got nauseas was when they gave me the inital meds. They wheeled me the OR and it was FREEZING. My doctor started the procedure and within minutes I could hear her crying. They said she was beautiful :). I said "You have to say that". I'd been under meds for a lonnng time at this point. I was so thankful for the Anesthesiologist who sat with me the entire time and explained what was going on in the room. They did some extra cleaning because she had some fluid in her lungs. She was screaming till she heard Adams voice, she grabbed his finger and held on. They finally brought her over to me and I don't remember what I thought. they put her on my chest and all I could think was that I couldn't breathe with her on me, but I was supposed to really like that moment. I was shaking uncontrollably the whole procedure. I was very happy to get back to my room. She was perfect :) pink and alert, looking around at her new world.

They rolled me back to my room through the 3409234 people who were waiting on us in the hall. I don't remember a lot from those hours. I know Adam and I spent some alone time with her... I heard it was good. We nursed, we cuddled... I was a mom :)

We had so many friends an dfamily come to celebrate. It was Halloween which was SO much fun. People showed up in costumes, my doctor was the Queen of Hearts. Although nothing went the way it was "supposed" to, it went exactly the way it was supposed to. We are so so blessed by God blessing our experience and giving us a healthy, happy princess.

Splash Splash

Week 14 is here!

Not much is happening on the pregnancy front. I don't feel like my stomach has gotten much larger. My nausea is day by day. I'm still tired, but I don't feel like my heads are in the clouds all the time.

I think we've decided to try to see the baby before our 19 week ultrasound to figure out what the gender is. I just cant stand the thought of us possibly being able to know and just waiting. It doesn't appear to be too expensive. These weeks are kind of boring, sorry.

Stink Stink

We really enjoyed Labor Day weekend. Lots of water fun (we are a little behind on this summer thing) Benjamin turned one and Katelynn loved the ball pit! We swam and played at the splash pad and hung out with Rylan boy. She still has no desire to stand up on her own and only pulls up to her knees... because she's a diva :) We are still fighting because she doesn't want to eat her formula anymore, but we try our best and she drinks what she drinks. She just loves food SO much.
